Dry Cleaning quickly made a name for themselves with their debut album New Long Leg, which featured Florence Shaw and her nonchalant phrasing, closer to spoken word than singing. Buoyed by Scratchcard Lanyard, New Long Leg was ranked as one of the best albums of 2021. After a solid show last May at the Fairmount, a performance that revealed a band more intense and groovy on stage than on record, the British combo is back again, this time to present their second effort, Stumpwork, released last October. Wanting to take advantage of a certain momentum and abundant inspiration, Dry Cleaning wasted no time in recording this sequel to New Long Leg. In fact, Stumpwork was almost all written and composed before the first album was even released.
Whereas New Long Leg was set within a very specific post-punk framework, Dry Cleaning’s latest goes beyond it, with more exploratory and refined music, without losing a certain groove, the only constant being Florence Shaw’s detached and apathetic delivery.
