Noise music is like a trou normand—a palate cleanser—for the ears: it makes room in one’s brain and recalibrates one’s eardrums. When noise music is improvised with intelligence, humour and heart, the experience becomes entertaining and transcendent. And those two words are the most useful when describing the music of the French duo « Autoreverse ».

NINA GARCIA, in her early thirties, is performing as a solo act under the moniker Mariachi, and she also plays in the band Mamiedaragon. Her approach, seemingly inspired by punk rock and Sonic Youth, consists in mistreating her guitar strings in countless creative ways while keeping a keen ear on what is going on around her.

ARNAUD RIVIÈRE has a quarter of a century of experience in the art of making noise. He has played with the whole spectrum of the French avant-garde and collaborated with most of the international noise music scene. He draws a frenetic and fascinating sound world from a rudimentary electroacoustic setup consisting of a turntable, metal rods and springs, and contact mics.
