Oscar Jerome – Feed the Pigs

· by Alain Brunet

Fans of King Krule and Puma Blue, discover Oscar Jerome, another superb creature of this slightly dirty London jazz that we love so much, moreover one of the pearls of the program of the next FIJM. Since most of us haven’t listened to this album released a few months ago, we’re talking about it right now. Oscar Jerome, by the way, is also the guitarist of Korokoko, this powerful afrobeat jazz combo from London whose galette we have reviewed with consummate enthusiasm.

Among his assumed references, the biographical profiles of Oscar Jerome cite Gil Scott-Heron, John Martyn, The Clash, Ali Farka Touré, J Dilla… No need to complain! We have the groove, great flexibility in the beat, an excellent rhythm section, we have a guitar with a superb tone, we have soaring moments, we have textures that are just rough enough, we have sax and flute not too clean, we have Lea Sen making an appearance, we have folk songs and melodies with a punk attitude, hip-hop phrasing, we have here an astonishing sound diversity, we have a voice that cements everything with the guitar. A must, no more no less.

At Studio TD, June 29, 10 p.m..
