From world-renowned Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, a fascinating performance of 11 studies by Philip Glass. As a prelude to this recording, we’re treated to the overture of Glassworks, returning as a postlude with the collaboration of the Siggi String Quartet. Like his infallible technique, impressive contrasts between sometimes light and intangible, sometimes heavy and frenetic sounds testify to Ólafsson’s great virtuosity. The pianist addresses the question of repetition with character, personality and intensity, while demonstrating a very convincing understanding of Glass’ work.
