In February 2019, the quintet released The Door to Doom, their first album since Psalms for the Dead in 2012 and the first with singer Lohan Längqvist since the release of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus in 1986. Fans and nostalgics who were waiting for this return to the roots on behalf of Candlemass had reason to be happy since The Door to Doom is a very good album, in the continuity of Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, which is, let’s remember, the first effort of the doom band. The EP The Pendulum is composed of unused material from the recording sessions of The Door to Doom, and it must be said, it would have better remained unreleased. Apart from the title song that deserved a place on The Door to Doom (or a special edition of the album), there are demo versions of the songs “Snakes of Goliath” and “Porcelain Skull”, and bits of melodies entitled “Sub Zero”, “Aftershock”, and “The Cold Room”, that thin the sauce unnecessarily. In their demo versions, the songs sound like unfinished sketches that you forget as soon as you stop listening to them.
