Philippe Katerine, généralement connu sous le nom de Katerine, est un chanteur et auteur-compositeur français alternatif qui a émergé dans les années 90, obtenant d’abord un succès underground avant de connaître une ascension commerciale au fil des années. Né Philippe Blanchard le 8 décembre 1968 à Chantonnay, en Vendée, il fait ses débuts dans l’enregistrement commercial en 1991 avec Les Mariages Chinois sur le label Rosebud. Un album lo-fi auto-enregistré composé de chansons minimalistes d’une ou deux minutes, Les Mariages Chinois s’est révélé très influent et a été réédité avec du matériel supplémentaire en 1993 sous le titre Les Mariages Chinois et la Relecture. Les albums suivants, L’Éducation Anglaise (1994), Mes Mauvaises Fréquentations (1996), Les Créatures (1997) et L’Homme à Trois Mains (1999), ont consolidé la réputation de Katerine en tant que figure de proue de la scène pop indie française. Sa réputation a été renforcée par diverses collaborations, notamment l’écriture d’un album entier pour Anna Karina, Une Histoire d’Amour (2000). Au tournant du millénaire, le fan base de Katerine avait tellement grandi qu’il commençait à figurer régulièrement dans les classements des albums français, à commencer par 8ème Ciel (2002). Son succès commercial est véritablement arrivé en 2005 avec Robots Après Tout, qui a atteint le Top 30 des classements français et a engendré le single à succès « Louxor J’adore ». Grâce à la popularité de « Louxor J’adore » et du single suivant « 100% V.I.P. », Robots Après Tout est resté près de deux ans dans les classements français, y passant un total de 97 semaines. Suite à cette percée commerciale, l’album Studiolive (2007), essentiellement une réenregistrement de Robots Après Tout en version live en studio, a été publié sous plusieurs formats, dont l’un incluait un DVD. Son album éponyme de 2010 était accompagné de vidéos pour chaque chanson — réalisées par son ami et bassiste Gaëtan Chestnut — qui combinaient l’imaginaire merveilleux de Katerine avec les visuels capturés par Chestnut. En 2011, il a entrepris un projet d’album triple avec un groupe de jazz formé par le saxophoniste François Ripoche. L’album, 52 Reprises dans l’Espace, se composait de 52 reprises de chansons d’artistes tels que Pierre Bachelet et Phenomenal Club. En plus de sa production musicale, Katerine s’est affirmé comme un acteur talentueux après le tournant du siècle, apparaissant dans de nombreux films.

His mainstream breakthrough came in 2005 with Robots Après Tout, which reached the Top 30 of the French albums chart and spawned the Top 40 hit single « Louxor J’adore. » Thanks to the popularity of « Louxor J’adore » and the follow-up single « 100% V.I.P., » Robots Après Tout spent nearly two years on the French albums chart, logging 97 weeks in total. In the wake of his mainstream breakthrough, the album Studiolive (2007), essentially a re-recording of Robots Après Tout done live in the studio, was released in a couple different formats, one of which included a lengthy DVD. His self-titled release in 2010 was accompanied by videos for each track — directed by his friend and bassist Gaëtan Chestnut — which combined the wonderful imagery Katerine had created with the visuals captured by Chestnut. During 2011 he embarked on a triple album project with a jazz band formed by saxophonist François Ripoche. The album, 52 Reprises dans l’Espace, consisted 52 cover versions of songs by artists such as Pierre Bachelet and Phenomenal Club. In addition to his musical output, Katerine established himself as a talented actor after the turn of the century, appearing in numerous films.
