Le flow d’Eem Triplin est si fluide et mélodique qu’il pourrait facilement basculer vers le R&B, mais il reste un artiste hip-hop dont le jeu de mots complexe dépasse le cadre du chant. Également producteur – il s’est fait connaître grâce à son travail avec le rappeur $NOT –, Triplin publie des morceaux depuis 2018, alors qu’il était encore adolescent. En 2022, le titre accrocheur AWKWARD FREESTYLE le propulse au rang de phénomène viral. Eem Triplin’s flow is smooth and melodic enough that he could make an easy switch to R&B, but he’s ultimately a hip-hop artist whose wordplay is too intricate to be classified as the work of a singer. Also a producer — he became known for his work with fellow MC $NOT — Triplin has been releasing tracks commercially since 2018, when he was in his late teens. The tuneful “AWKWARD FREESTYLE,” released in 2022, made the Pennsylvanian a viral sensation, and he has since released the Still Pretty EP and a handful of Sony-distributed singles, including the knocking “stephanie,” across 2023 and 2024.

Full Of Hell

Full of Hell are an American power-violence band whose sound ranges from blistering grindcore to brutal sludge metal, with ventures into experimental noise. Group Project au Théâtre Fairmount

Group Project est un trio de Montréal, Canada qui fait de la musique alternative-pop. Les débuts du groupe remontent à 2015 quand Jeremy Harbec rencontre Jacob Brown et qu’ils commencent à expérimenter avec des beats EDM & Pop dans la chambre à coucher/studio de Jeremy. En 2016 le duo commence à sortir leurs chansons sur SoundCloud. C’est alors qu’Alex Remington se joint à Jeremy et Jacob pour former Group Project et qu’ils commencent à enregistrer leurs premières chansons ensemble. Les vocales étaient alors enregistrées de façon créative sous des couvertures et les guitares étaient enregistrées avec des micros tenus manuellement puisque le groupe ne possédait pas encore de stands à micros. Le gérant d’artiste, Stéphane McGarry, promenait un jour son chien quand la mère d’Alex (la fan #1 de Group Project!) lui suggéra d’écouter les chansons du groupe. La fille de Stéphane entendit les chansons qu’il écoutait et lui dit que tous les ados à son école écoutaient déjà ces chansons. Deux ans plus tard, Group Project établit un partenariat avec Spectra Musique et Evenko et le groupe a hâte de continuer à progresser en 2021. Le plus récent single du groupe ‘Settle Down’ est sorti le 28 mai dernier.

Group Project is an alternative-pop trio based out of Montreal, Canada. The band can trace its roots back to 2015 when Jeremy Harbec met Jacob Brown, to experiment with EDM & Pop beats in Jeremy’s bedroom studio. They began to release their songs on SoundCloud in 2016. Alex Remington soon joined the picture, and Group Project began recording its first few songs. Vocals were recorded creatively under blankets, and guitars were recorded by hand-held microphones since the trio did not have mic-stands. The band’s manager, Stephane McGarry, was walking his dog one day when Alex’s mom (Group Project’s biggest fan) convinced him to give the band’s music a listen. Stephane’s daughter heard the songs playing in the background and informed him that all the kids were listening to it at her school. Two years later, Group Project has partnered with Spectra Musique and Evenko and the band is looking forward to taking strides forward in 2021. The band’s single ‘Settle Down’ was released on May 28th.

An indie rock project with a penchant for heavy riffs, moody vocals, and rumination, Momma is the duo of Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, who share singing, songwriting, and guitar duties. Mereba moves freely from soul-rooted progressive R&B to folk to hip-hop while favoring a narrative approach to songwriting. Deeply connected to the South, the singer/rapper, multi-instrumentalist, and producer honed her talents in Atlanta, where she became part of the Dreamville-affiliated Spillage Village collective. She got her start as a solo artist with folk-soul recordings including the Room for Living EP (2013), and made her major-label debut with The Jungle Is the Only Way Out (2019), a wide-ranging album featuring collaborations with 9th Wonder (“Black Truck”) and Spillage Village associates JID (“Sandstorm”) and 6LACK (“Heatwave”). Following Azeb (2021), an EP highlighted by the affectionate and lullaby-like “Rider,” Mereba appeared primarily as a collaborator on songs headlined by the likes of Saba, Ravyn Lenae, and Baby Rose. Formé en 1988, le quatuor de West Yorkshire Paradise Lost est rapidement devenu un pionnier du doom metal et du grindcore naissant. Au début et au milieu des années 1990, Paradise Lost signe avec Music for Nations et enchaîne trois albums acclamés par la critique : Shades of God, Icon et Draconian Times. Après un passage chez EMI, le groupe renoue avec ses racines en 2007 avec In Requiem, leur premier album chez Century Media. En 2017, ils rejoignent le label Nuclear Blast pour leur quinzième album studio, Medusa, avant d’explorer une sonorité plus vintage sur Obsidian en 2020.

While their 1990 debut Lost Paradise was straightforward, deft, death metal reminiscent of Napalm Death and Obituary, the follow-up Gothic found the band adding female vocals, keyboards, and prominent guitar lines, all rarities for the genre. In the early to mid-’90s, the group signed with Music for Nations and produced a trio of critically heralded records: Shades of God, Icon, and Draconian Times. After a stint on EMI, the outfit returned to form with 2007’s creative In Requiem, their first LP for Century Media. Paradise Lost moved to Nuclear Blast in 2017 for their 15th studio album, Medusa. They explored a more vintage sound on 2020’s Obsidian.

Festival International Nuits d’Afrique : Daby Touré au Théâtre Fairmount

Les projets les plus récents de ce saltimbanque de la musique, bien connu du public montréalais, l’ont amené à se reconnecter à ses racines. Il y a d’abord eu ce spectacle qu’il a initié fin 2023 au mythique New Morning, à Paris, en compagnie de ses cousins: un hommage bien senti à leurs pères, les membres du légendaire groupe Touré Kunda, qui est de ceux à avoir propulsé une musique ouest-africaine moderne sur la scène internationale. Puis cette résidence d’artiste dans le Fouta, en 2024, sur les rives du fleuve Sénégal, là où il a grandi, au contact de la terre sèche des dunes roses. Il en a tiré un premier titre, Leki, en collaboration avec de jeunes artistes de la région. Plus que jamais, à travers sa folk douce, chaude et rebelle comme le vent du désert, il pose un regard de globe-trotter sur les traditions musicales ouest-africaines, les pigmentant de blues, de jazz, de pop, de reggae, de funk et de soul.

Well known to Montreal audiences, this musical marvel’s latest projects have led him to reconnect with his roots. First there was the show he put on with his cousins at the famous New Morning in Paris in late 2023, a heartfelt tribute to their fathers, who founded Touré Kunda, the legendary band that helped to propel modern West African music onto the international stage. Then, in 2024, there was the Artist Residency in the Futa, on the banks of the Senegal River, where he grew up in proximity to the pink sand dunes. From there, he released the single “Leki” in collaboration with young musicians from the region. More than ever, through his folk sound, as soft, warm and rebellious as the desert wind, he casts his gaze on West African musical traditions, infusing them with blues, jazz, pop, reggae, funk and soul.
