Connu à l’origine sous le nom de Tokyo, Glass Tiger s’est formé à Newmarket, en Ontario, en 1981 et a passé plusieurs années à se faire les dents sur la scène des bars de l’époque.

Évoluant dans les milieux underground algériens qui ne cessent de réinventer les traditions des musiques maghrébines, il fera ses premiers pas sur la scène parisienne sous les couverts du groupe Cheikh Sidi Bémol, traduisant ses inspirations diverses en un style unique qualifié de Gourbi-rock. Cheikh Sidi Bémol’s latest release, Chouf!, the band offers up dynamic, edgy songs with a heavy dose of blues. Buoyed by the charismatic vocals of the talented Hocine Boukella, this album is a rousing call to action against the forces of corruption and religious fanaticism, while also serving as a sincere love letter to rock ’n’ roll.

With Chouf!, Boukella returns to his musical roots, to what first inspired him to pick up a guitar and raise his voice in song. His career began in Algerian underground circles which saw the reinvention of traditional Maghreb music. Boukella first appeared on the Paris scene as a member of Cheikh Sidi Bémol, channelling his diverse influences into a unique style known as Gourbi Rock. Combining blues and rock with Chaabi, Gnawa, Celtic and Berber idioms, his multilingual lyrics use humour and sarcasm to challenge the status quo through rousing anthems to freedom.

A keen political observer, Boukella’s music remains steadfastly optimistic, brimming with confidence in a younger generation yearning for liberty and hungry for change. Chouf! is an electrifying manifesto, a call for new ideas and a battle hymn for the marginalized. Love—particularly love for women—is a recurring theme throughout, with two of the album’s songs paying tribute to women’s role in society, painting them as selfless symbols of hope and equality. Hocine Boukella puts on an exhilarating show that is sure to inspire.

Parfois, on a l’impression d’entendre une chanson de Bright Eyes avec tout son corps. Depuis les premiers enregistrements de Conor Oberst dans un sous-sol d’Omaha en 1995 jusqu’en 2022, la musique de Bright Eyes tente de démêler les écheveaux impossibles de la dissidence : personnelle et politique, externe et interne. C’est une étude de la beauté dans l’instabilité sous toutes ses formes – dans une voix, des croyances, l’amour, l’identité, et ce qui remplit les espaces entre. Et à bien des égards, il s’agit simplement de chercher un moyen de s’en sortir.

Au cours des treize dernières années, Thursday a été dans un état constant de transition. Nés à New Brunswick, NJ, au milieu d’un renouveau de la culture DIY, ils semblaient en décalage avec le hardcore traditionnel de leurs pairs. Privilégiant les rythmes post-punk déchiquetés aux breakdowns métalliques et citant Neil Young et le poète post-moderne Michael Palmer plutôt que Henry Rollins et Noam Chomsky, le groupe a toujours semblé en désaccord avec l’étiquette maladroitement appliquée de “pionniers du post-hardcore”. Avec ce point de départ, ils se sont lancés dans une quête effrénée pour trouver leur place dans le monde : ils ont tourné avec tout le monde, des Cure à Cursive, en élargissant et en affinant sans cesse leur vocabulaire musical.

For the last thirteen years, Thursday has been in a constant state of transition. Rising from New Brunswick, NJ, in the midst of a DIY basement culture revival, they seemed out of step with the traditional hardcore of their peers. Favoring jagged post-punk rhythms over metallic breakdowns and quoting from Neil Young and post-modern poet, Michael Palmer, instead of Henry Rollins and Noam Chomsky, the band always seemed at odds with the awkwardly applied label of “post-hardcore pioneers”. With this starting point, they set out wildly to find their place in the world: touring with everyone from the Cure to Cursive, continually expanding and refining their musical vocabulary.

Joep Beving au Théâtre Corona

Joep Beving fait la paire avec le piano depuis son plus jeune âge. Il a été contraint de mettre fin à ses études musicales au conservatoire et a préféré poursuivre à l’université pour obtenir un diplôme en politique et administration publiques. Cependant, son amour pour son instrument ne s’est jamais éteint. Alors que son objectif était autrefois de frapper le plus grand nombre de notes par minute possible, son style de jeu a changé au fil des ans, à la recherche d’une essence esthétique particulière. Son chemin a été éclairé par un piano que Beving a hérité de sa grand-mère lorsqu’elle est décédée en 2009. Cet instrument allemand insistait sur un toucher plus doux et un rythme gracieux, ce qui a finalement conduit Beving à s’adapter à un vocabulaire plus classique pour raconter son histoire.

Joep Beving has been one with the piano from an early age. He was forced to end his musical studies at the conservatory and instead continued at university to get a degree in public policy and public administration. However, his love for his instrument never perished. Where once his goal was to hit as many notes per minute as physically possible, his style of playing has changed over the years, searching for a particular aesthetic essence. His path was illuminated by a piano that Beving inherited from his grandmother when she passed away in 2009. This German instrument insisted on a more gentle touch and a gracious pace, which eventually led Beving to adapt to a more classical vocabulary to tell his story.

The Bronx était formé, à l’origine, du chanteur Matt Caughthran, du guitariste Joby J. Ford, du bassiste James Tweedy et du batteur Jorma Vik. Dès leurs premiers concerts, ils attirent l’attention des maisons de disques et signent chez Island Def Jam Music Group. Ils enregistrent leur première démo en 2002, et sortent Bats!, leur premier single, en 2003.

Ford, bassist James Tweedy, and drummer Jorma Vik. From their first shows, they attracted the attention of record companies and were signed to Island Def Jam Music Group. They recorded their first demo in 2002, and released their first single, Bats! in 2003.
