Mêlant synth-pop et rock gothique, le groupe canadien Psyche s’est forgé une solide base de fans en Europe et un statut culte dans le reste du monde grâce à son alliance entre mélodie et dramaturgie. D’abord apparu comme un projet minimal synth accompagné de performances scéniques étranges et provocantes, leur musique a progressivement évolué vers une approche plus pop, tout en conservant une atmosphère sombre et introspective. À la fin des années 90, Psyche avait pleinement embrassé son penchant pour la musique dansante, affirmant ainsi son statut de pionnier de la scène EBM et futurepop.

Combining synth pop and goth rock, Canada’s Psyche built a solid fan base in Europe and a cult following in the rest of the world with their marriage of drama and melody. Initially surfacing as a minimal synth act with a bizarre, confrontational stage show, their work gradually became more pop-minded while maintaining a dark, brooding atmosphere. By the end of the ’90s, Psyche had fully embraced their danceable side, asserting their status as godfathers of the EBM/futurepop scene.

Élevé dans le sud du New Jersey, Louyah a fait ses débuts musicaux en tant que vocaliste et guitariste des groupes de metal Premonition et Idle Minds. Après six années passées en tant que membre de groupe, il a décidé de se lancer dans une carrière solo. Rather than specifying on one genre, Louyah’s music incorporates an eclectic mix of sounds fusing pop, rock, rap, and R&B elements.

Preoccupations’ beautifully rough version of post-punk is equally life-affirming and well-versed in existential dread. The band’s debut album, 2015’s Viet Cong, mixed post-punk, psych-pop, shoegaze, noise, and electronics in fearless ways that nevertheless maintained a very human pulse. This connection to their humanity remained on all of their albums, though Preoccupations’ music became subtler and more open-ended on 2016’s Preoccupations, more anthemic on 2018’s poised New Material, and more confrontational on 2022’s Arrangements.

Kassie Krut a débuté comme projet solo, son nom déformant malicieusement celui de son créateur, Kasra Kurt, guitariste et chanteur de Palm. Tandis que le quatuor de Philadelphie explorait de nouvelles sonorités autour de la guitare, ce projet parallèle permettait à Kurt d’expérimenter avec l’électronique et de développer des idées plus personnelles. Lorsque Palm s’est séparé en 2023 après dix ans et trois albums acclamés, Kurt a déménagé à New York avec Eve Alpert, co-guitariste et chanteuse du groupe, ainsi que Matt Anderegg, producteur de leur dernier disque. Ensemble, ces amis et collaborateurs de longue date ont donné naissance à une nouvelle version de Kassie Krut, désormais un trio.

Kassie Krut began as a solo act, its name impishly garbling that of its maker, Kasra Kurt, who otherwise served as a guitarist and vocalist in Palm. While the Philadelphia-based four-piece undertook bracing new adventures in guitar music, the side project was a venue for Kurt to indulge his taste for electronics and set stray ideas to simmer. When Palm called it quits in 2023, after ten years and three acclaimed albums, Kurt decamped to New York with Eve Alpert, the band’s co-guitarist/vocalist, and Matt Anderegg, who produced Palm’s final record. Playing together, the longtime friends and collaborators christened a new, three-headed incarnation of Kassie Krut.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Mei Semones makes sophisticated indie pop with undertones of jazz, bossa nova, and math rock. Based in Brooklyn, she issued her debut EP, Tsukino, in 2022. It featured lyrics in both Japanese and English, a trend she continued on subsequent releases including 2024’s Kabutomushi EP, her debut for Brooklyn indie Bayonet Records.

Jouant un rock furieux, épuré et enraciné dans le metalcore et le hardcore, ’68 est le projet du guitariste et chanteur Josh Scogin. Le groupe adhère clairement à l’idée que moins c’est plus : composé uniquement d’un guitariste et d’un batteur, ils créent un son à la fois plein et percutant. Leurs morceaux montrent une influence évidente du blues, tout en conservant l’impact écrasant du hard rock, tandis que les paroles témoignent d’une recherche des réponses de la vie, exprimée avec une passion furieuse. Les influences hardcore de ’68 étaient les plus marquées sur leur premier album In Humor and Sadness (2014), tandis qu’avec Two Parts Viper (2017), leurs accents blues sont davantage mis en avant, et Give One Take One (2021) met l’accent sur un hard rock direct, tout en étant livré avec leur niveau habituel d’intensité.

Playing furious, stripped-to-the-frame rock rooted in metalcore and hardcore, ’68 was the creation of guitarist and vocalist Josh Scogin. The tunes show a clear blues influence along with their crushing hard rock impact, while the vocals document a search for life’s answers expressed with a furious passion. ’68’s hardcore influences were strongest on their 2014 debut album In Humor and Sadness, while 2017’s Two Parts Viper brought their blues accents up in the mix, and 2021’s Give One Take One put a renewed emphasis on straightforward hard rock, albeit delivered with their standard level of intensity.

An English singer, songwriter, and producer, LAUREL is known for her sparkling, soulful alt-pop.
