There is something very experimental and catchy happening during “FRIENDS OF PHASES,” the debut single from zfromtheaplhabet, a multi-disciplinary jazz fusion artist from Beijing, but now based in the United States. The track starts with a psychedelic and jazzy, yet minimal keyboard line and then morphs into a freaky and funky odyssey, reminiscent of a track from Thundercat. But instead of the many instruments being a bass guitar, we have a high-pitched, stratospheric synth cloaked by vocoder vocals, and off-kilter drum beats. If you’re familiar with Louis Cole’s KNOWER, zfromthealphabet will be right up your alley.
