Best Albums of 2025 : Inji – Superlame

· by Alain Brunet

From Istanbul, İnci Gürün came to the US “to become a banker”… but interest rates have been climbing ever since she arrived! With her career in finance behind her, the young woman has instead become Inji, an explosive singer and brilliant electronic music producer. Somewhere between Disclosure, Deee-Lite, and Madonna’s Vogue period, she is one of the pleasant surprises of Osheaga 2025, offering a massive dose of vitamins and other substances that aren’t exactly vitamins. Her irresistible stage presence led us to the album Superlame, released at the end of October. Very danceable synthetic bass, house/bass music/disco/reggaeton/afrobeats keyboard motifs galore, drums and beatboxing on point. Bonus swing jazz interludes! The tempos are fast or very fast, the keyboard riffs and digital gadgets are rigorously designed. She sings, she recites, she raps, her phrasing is impeccable, her energy is on point, and she hooks you at every moment that counts. Inji is the maximum energy of a 24-year-old night owl, fierce, brilliant, sexy, and independent. Fortunately, such an emergence is still very possible in the Turkey of the authoritarian and retrograde Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
