The Halluci Nation – Path of the Baby Face

· by Stephan Boissonneault

The Indigenous Pow Wow step duo, Halluci Nation, FKA — A Tribe Called Red —are back with a new EP that follows up their mythological wrestling story EP, Path of the Heel, from 2023. Actually, it’s a prequel to the story that heavily features Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham and his fictional rise to power as a bad guy wrestling promoter. “Baby Face” in pro wrestling refers to the “Good Guys” who often defeat a “Bad Guy” or “Heel”—in this case Abraham —and become the crowd favourites. And the wrestling connect doesn’t stop there, with none other than Bret “The Hitman” Hart featuring in the music video for the opening track “Sharpshooter.”

Touching on three different genres that have had a major influence on the Halluci Nation’s career (Dubstep, Moombahton, and HipHop), the EP creates a fun auditory adventure for anyone aware or unaware of The Halluci Nation’s work thus far. The short electronic EP is just another way The Halluci Nation continues to be one of the more unique artists in the Canada electro landscape.

The closer “The Place.” features the rapping stylings of Vancouver’s Kapok, which feels much like a modern R&B track, with a few jazzy keyboard chords. The only problem with this EP is its length. At three songs, it just scratches the surface. There are many more wrestling terms and themes that could have been explored here. We haven’t had a full release from Halluci Nation since 2021’s One More Saturday Night, so perhaps Bear Witness and 2oolman are cooking up a full album soon.
