REVIEW OF STRAT ANDRIOTIS’ EXITS
The Wolf Sleeps Alone does not deviate from the previous line, with metamorphic melodic lines, bouncy rhythmic intricacies, and sometimes elusive harmonic constructions. With Andriotis, one quickly perceives this aura of improvisation and spontaneity, more pronounced than in the jazz tinged with pop and rock of modern groups that lean towards social virality (not pejoratively, I must clarify).
What I mean is that the aesthetic of the Canadian guitarist/composer leans more towards a jazz that is both inspired by the moment and firmly rooted in a complex and densely woven post-bop. Here and there, we also hear good traces of swing and blues in the architectural foundations, and it makes us nod our heads and tap our feet pleasantly.
And above all, Andriotis is a magnificent technician and improviser. He performs superb feats with his instrument, enough to solidly impress anyone on the current international scene.
Serious jazz that puts you in a good mood.
