This eponymous album from the American vocal octet contains several little jewels of creativity. Scattered among the other works in this recital are the four movements of Partita for 8 Voices by the American Caroline Shaw, winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize. Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia (1968), Olivier Messiaen’s Cinq rechants (1948), European baroque song and Inuit throat-singing can be recognized in this work, one that’s nonetheless original, and moreover bewitching and fascinating. An album of undeniable technical and musical quality.
