We’ve Got Nothing is a live album (2nd of its kind and 6th in the discography) by Toronto band Peripheral Vision.
Muscular but agile jazz, filled with post-Coltranian harmonies that veer easily into free jazz, themselves shot through with exhilarating flashes that invite comparison with the contemporary school of Bad Plus and others of the genre. But the rhythmic terrain is more hard bop than pure urban groove. Nonetheless, We’ve Got Nothing offers a 360-degree panorama of intensity, with some cathartic peaks such as The Mask Has Become the Face, a concentrate of incandescent energy furiously driven by tenor and guitar. As I said, the album is a live affair: it must have been a real blast to be on the spot!
They’re worth mentioning and saluting:
Trevor Hogg – tenor saxophone
Don Scott – guitar
Michael Herring – bass
Nick Fraser – drums
