This is Mathieu Herzog’s first recording as a conductor. The former violist of Quatuor Ébène offers here an impeccable, even perfect version of Mozart’s last three symphonies. In this interpretation, not only does one feel that the conductor knows the works in detail, but also surprised that he can shake something modern out of them. This work of balance is worthy of a great chamber musician. We hope that this collaboration between Herzog and the Ensemble Appassionato will continue to generate other great musical moments to match of marvelous recording.
