Maude Audet has been paving her way in the Quebec musical landscape since 2015. Five French-language albums and a mini EP later, for which she won the Lucien for best folk EP, this year she presents her first English-language EP Blue Tears, co-produced with her collaborator Charlie Parcoeur (Charles Blondeau), who also signs keyboards and guitars.
A bouquet of 3 light folk songs, straight out of an era suspended somewhere between the ’60s and now, with the potential of the melodies of yesteryear multiplied tenfold by the tools of the present. The title track opens with a yéyé-rhythm melody, spiced up with beautiful castanets, as Maude sings of the slow death of a relationship. Heal and Break carries a message of hope, supported by the duet with the male voice, on a more country-folk construction to which the bells lend a lovely lightness. Finally, Along the road, my favorite track on the album, takes us on a musical stroll, face to face with you and me, over frank guitar and piano arrangements, wishing us all the best.
A short, beautiful EP, which makes Maude’s voice resonate differently in the language of Shakespeare, while retaining her light, luminous signature.
