Here is the reference DVD recording of one of the greatest contemporary chamber operas, Luci Mie Traditrici by the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino. This 70-minute work recounts the tragic love triangle between Renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo, his wife, and her lover. The performers shine with their remarkable vocal technique, particularly during the messa di voce, the gradual crescendo of a sustained pitch, but also with their playing, delivered in a calm, clear manner. The whole is presented in such a way as to create a feeling of intimacy, far from the usual great emotion and passion of the genre, thanks to the musical writing so characteristic of this great Italian master.
