As his output becomes increasingly rare over the years (this album is his only release of the decade), Hassell, 82 years old, nevertheless keeps moving forward, tirelessly in his exploration. Here, the trumpeter plays with the superimposition of ghostly impressions and sound-fragment transparencies, creating captivating synesthetic effects. If you enjoy this kind of duplication effect, I invite you to listen to Anthony Braxton’s Echo Echo Mirror House project. Dumbfoundingly amazing.
