For a debut album, directed and produced by Junior Gong Marley, the expectations were nothing less than stratospheric. Indeed, the lyricist, whose revolutionary spirit was well known, polished his most biting texts for the occasion. Together with Protoje and Iba Mahr, Kabaka Pyramid proudly represents the new Jamaican roots movement, fusing the energy and melodic side of reggae with the lyricism of hip hop. Several excerpts have become instant classics, including the title song with Junior Gong, “Can’t Breathe”, and “Everywhere I Go” with Protojé. Accompanied by his loyal Beeble Rockers Band, Pyramid has been scouring the planet since the middle of the decade and has gained thousands of fans.
