Probably the best known of their discography, Halcyon Digest is the album on which Deerhunter open their horizons. Without necessarily abandoning guitars, the group equipped itself with a new slate of instruments (banjo, harmonica, saxophone, electronic sampling, etc.) to enrich its compositions. The work also benefits from the production work by Ben H. Allen (who helmed Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavillon the previous year). The result is a record more accessible than its predecessors and with a pristine richness of sound. The central track of the album, “Desire Lines”, remains to this day the greatest song ever written by the band.
