A world citizen, Spoek Mathambo offered a compelling overview of urban culture in South Africa in 2012. Very aware of digital and analog possibilities, this artist has generated a joyful multi-genre mess: songs, rap, percussions, guitars, keyboards and machines whirl wildly through 11 contagious tracks… These are the rumblings of a new global sound, non-Western music not intended to simply update local traditions. Of course the South African flavours are present, through the Afro-pop accents and motifs encapsulated here and there in this abundant production, nevertheless another view of a global culture…
