Little Simz has grown up. The lyrics have always been hers and this latest EP was entirely recorded in her living room in confinement, her work from A to Z, right up to the electric-blue cover. This colour characterizes the atmosphere, starting with “Might Bang, Might Not” with its sense of urgency, its bass line and ringing alarm, and its lyrics like, “I am a one-woman army, I am the force that we speak of”, or rumours of war against “fuckboys”. Then the tone softens and the bass line becomes more bossa, without the singer losing her lyrical and verbal vigour. “Young blood, old soul”, as she says on “You Should Call Mum”, sums up the personality of Little Simz, whose real name is Simbi Ajikawo, although after five years it’s no longer so necessary to introduce her. We can only look forward to the next album, given the quality of her flow, the gravity of her voice (intact since her debut) and in addition, the production of Kal Banx, also seen alongside Sir and J. Cole. To be noted is guest singer Alewya and her beautiful vocal arabesques. Little Simz is further beautiful living proof of what youth is capable of, and shows how a singer full of ambition can become a powerful woman.
