Croatian cellist Stjepan Hauser offers a selection of short pieces from the general classical repertoire. These include a shortened arrangement of the second movement of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a few arias by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, Chopin’s Nocturne in C sharp minor… A certain homogeneity emerges from this album, which finally consists of a succession of relatively soft and slow tunes. The cello here comes nowhere near overtaking the orchestra, which also contributes to the homogeneity. Nevertheless, the arrangements remain convincing, and Classic is certainly an easy and accessible listen.
