This generous offering from trumpeter Scott demonstrates his ambitions: to broaden the jazz idiom, and to create a transcendent and accessible work, with modern compositions featuring rock, hip hop and R&B accents that express the current and historical shortcomings of our society, interpreted with panache. Of particular note is the performance of guitarist Matthew Stevens, which is perfectly suited to the musical universe of the leader, whose West African adopted name gives this recording its title.
