Lloyd is 86 and continues to add, brick by brick, his immense contribution to modern jazz. The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow is the giant’s 11th album for Blue Note. A quartet in due form, with the Everestian pinnacle of today’s music: Jason Moran on piano, Larry Grenadier on double bass and Brian Blade on drums support the octogenarian with his sax of assertive character and impeccable stylistic sapience. Moran’s piano skilfully pearls Lloyd’s elegant but sometimes off-kilter lines, while Grenadier’s double bass and Blade’s drums titillate the discourse with discreet asymmetrical extravagances. With this level of talent per square second, this album simply couldn’t disappoint. And it doesn’t.
