They’re from Toulouse, France, and they must be setting any club they visit on fire, if the sound of BØL’s exciting debut Where Glitter Goes is anything to go by. Propulsive electro beats, a few cinematic horns and the occasional rockish guitar – that’s the word for the adrenalin shot I’ve been hearing on repeat in my headphones for the past few days. Add the occasional snippet of noise/free/experimental and you’ve got something that rises above the simple pulsating discharge of dancehall accompaniment.
Sometimes I think of post-Prodigy, slimmed down and airy, or Propellerheads with a less rugby, more soccer build. Matrix reworked by Air. You get the idea? In any case, it’s a lot of fun and you can imagine yourself in a nightclub in Berlin, Paris or Montreal, and it instils a good cardio wiggle. Only thing: I don’t think they’ve been to Montreal before. To be corrected as soon as possible, please.
Addictive.
