Best Albums of 2025: Theodora – BAD BOY LOVESTORY

· by Léa Dieghi

If I say “Bossssss Ladyyyyy,” does that ring a bell? Just two words, but ones that definitely marked the year 2025. Whether you love her, have mixed feelings about her, or hate her personality and musical style, her talent is undeniable. Named Female Revelation of the Year at the 2025 Flammes Awards and Woman of the Year by GQ in November 2025, her album, released in late 2024, Bad Boy Lovestory, and re-released in 2025 with more songs, went platinum. And Theodora was certified as the new icon of the French-language rap and pop scene.
Redefining the codes of urban pop and asserting her feminist and anti-racist commitment, Theodora’s debut album is a somewhat rough-and-ready project, but one with an energy and novelty that is impossible to ignore. Rejecting the safe and conventional formats of French-language music, she navigates between styles: whether it’s deconstructed pop, rap, R&B, Afrobeat, or even more club-oriented sounds, she stands out for her heterogeneity. She wanders between styles, disperses, and her comings and goings are sometimes confusing. Yet it is this energy and unconventionality that draw us in.
It is also her maximalist, sensual, and hyperfeminine aesthetic. This kind of aesthetic makes us want to shout “Yes Queen!” when she appears on stage or when her famous song “Kongolese Sous BBL” plays in the club. Her writing remains deliberately simple, occasionally repetitive, but carried by a unique, mannerist voice that divides as much as it intrigues.
And while some critics condemn her for offering us an album that is “not entirely successful,” we would argue that it is this assumed imperfection that makes Bad Boy Love Story such a lively and unconventional work, one that has definitely left its mark on the year 2025.
