Well known for democratizing her instrument on social media and for her film music covers, organist and titular organist of London’s Royal Albert Hall Anna Lapwood released another album earlier this year.
The strength of this album lies in its ability to showcase the immense potential of this instrument. Whether presenting the organ as an accompaniment or as a solo instrument, the album transports us to different musical worlds.
The arrangement of Bob Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love, performed by the Choir of Pembroke College (the choir she directed until very recently), is truly joyful in its a cappella opening, culminating in the majestic entrance of the organ. In contrast, the cover of Time from the film Inception plunges us directly back into that 2008 movie.
Mixing original compositions and arrangements, this album is worth discovering to familiarize yourself with the instrument, to dispel prejudices, or to savor the sonic array that can be generated by two arms and two legs and countless games.
