Last week, Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist dropped Alfredo without warning. With “1985”, we’re right into the hard stuff with a debt-riddled Freddie Gibbs on a very clean guitar-drum combination, for a real red-carpet entrance. “God is Perfect” follows with its pure hip hop style, made of a few minor-key piano notes and an effective beat. This Gibbs/Alchemist duo works wonderfully and confirms the arrival of two rap powers. It’s pleasant to return to this more classic recipe, especially since the quality of the guests (Rick Ross, Tyler the Creator, Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine) gives even more cachet to what can already be stamped “value guaranteed”. Certainly one of the current releases that will live past the year 2020, with a mention for the beautiful visual of the cover.
