Syroko au Festival Nuits d’Afrique

Thu 21 Jul 2022 • 08:00 pm Chaâbi
Scène TD-Radio-Canada - Montreal Gratuit
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Syroko earned Gold this 15th edition of the Syli d’or de la musique du monde! “There’s no question, Syroko was the clear winner, elegantly combining Algerian chaabi and Andalusian music with French lyrics. They were great!” (Le Devoir, 2022). The cliché of a strong, hot wind blowing across the desert is really fitting in this case. Syroko sweeps pas all conventions! Darbuka, accordion, double bass, violin and banjo take centre stage in an orchestration that completely reinvents Algerian Chaabi music by artfully integrating rumba, jazz, bolero and cumbia with an outpouring of of poetic, or political or else comical lyrics.
