Uyarakq, originaire de Nuuk, au Groenland, est une force contemporaine majeure de la scène hip-hop et rap Autochtone circumpolaire. Avec son groupe Silla and Rise, Charlotte Carleton a ouvert le concept de la musique inuite en plaçant le chant guttural dans un contexte contemporain. Ensemble, à Suoni, ces deux artistes présenteront un spectacle immersif et collaboratif. Ce spectacle a lieu en même temps que l’exposition ‘ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒧᑦ / Ruovttu Guvlui / Towards Home’ du CCA, une exposition dirigée par des Autochtones qui explore comment les Inuits, les Samis et d’autres communautés de l’Arctique créent des espaces autonomes. L’artiste et conservatrice montréalaise Asinnajaq, alias Isabella Weetaluktuk, a organisé une programmation additionnelle pour la soirée.
Uyarakq, hailing from Nuuk, Greenland, is a major contemporary force within the Indigenous circumpolar hip-hop and rap scene. With her group Silla and Rise, Charlotte Carleton has been expanding the concept of Inuit music, putting throat singing in a contemporary context. Together at Suoni, these two will present an immersive, collaborative set. This show is happening in conjunction with the CCA’s ‘ᐊᖏᕐᕋᒧᑦ / Ruovttu Guvlui / Towards Home’, an Indigenous-led exhibit exploring how Inuit, Sámi, and other communities across the Arctic are creating self-determined spaces. Montreal-based artist and curator Asinnajaq aka Isabella Weetaluktuk curated addtional programming for the evening.
