Avec un style d’expression rythmique inégalé, le batteur Willie Jones III est l’un des plus grands batteurs de jazz au monde. Jones a été membre du Quintet de Roy Hargrove et figure sur les CD de Roy Hargrove parus chez Verve : Moment To Moment, Hard Groove, Nothing Serious et Rh Factor’s Distractions. On peut entendre Jones sur une multitude d’enregistrements, dont Night Moves de Kurt Elling (Concord), nominé aux Grammy Awards, et Here d’Eric Reed (Max Jazz). Jones a travaillé avec Sonny Rollins, Ernestine Anderson, Bobby Hutcherson, Wynton Marsalis, Cedar Walton, Frank Wess, le Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, Houston Person, Billy Childs, Eric Reed, Ryan Kisor, Eric Alexander, Bill Charlap, Michael Brecker, Herbie Hancock et Hank Jones. En 2000, Jones a publié son premier CD, Vol 1… Straight Swingin’, sur son propre label, WJ3 Records. Il a ensuite publié Vol II… Don’t Knock The Swing (2002), Volume III (2007) et WE 2 (2008), un enregistrement pour trombone et piano avec Wycliffe Gordon et Eric Reed. Le dernier album de Jones s’intitule The Next Phase (2010). Le guitariste et compositeur Sam Kirmayer joue avec ” intrépidité et élan ” – Katie Malloch (CBC Jazz Beat & Tonic). With an unparalleled style of rhythmic expression, drummer Willie Jones III is one of the world’s leading jazz drummers.
