Artiste innue aux multiples talents, Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui, également connue sous le nom de Shanipiap, est auteure-compositrice-interprète, conteuse, animatrice, productrice de télévision et écrivaine. Née à Matimekush, près de Schefferville, elle est établie depuis de nombreuses années à Wendake, où elle poursuit une démarche artistique profondément ancrée dans la transmission des savoirs et de la culture innue. Elle compose et interprète des chansons en langue innue depuis la fin des années 1970. En 1999, elle lance son premier album, La Lune du Labrador, sous le nom de Shanipiap. En parallèle de sa carrière musicale, elle fonde les Productions Shanipiap et crée l’émission jeunesse Les Découvertes de Shanipiap, qu’elle produit et anime pour les chaînes APTN et TFO. À travers ses chansons, ses contes et ses écrits, Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui tisse un pont entre les traditions innues et le monde contemporain. Accompagnée de son tambour et de sa voix, elle célèbre la mémoire des ancêtres, la langue innue et les valeurs culturelles qui continuent d’inspirer son œuvre. Son parcours fait d’elle une figure incontournable de la création autochtone au Québec et au Canada.

Innue artist of many talents, Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui, also known as Shanipiap, is a singer-songwriter, storyteller, host, television producer, and author. Born in Matimekush, near Schefferville, she has lived for many years in Wendake, where she continues an artistic practice deeply rooted in the transmission of Innu knowledge and culture. She has been writing and performing songs in the Innu language since the late 1970s. In 1999, she released her debut album, La Lune du Labrador, under the name Shanipiap. Alongside her music career, she founded Productions Shanipiap and created the children’s television series Les Découvertes de Shanipiap, which she produced and hosted for APTN and TFO. Through her songs, stories, and writings, Geneviève McKenzie-Sioui builds a bridge between Innu traditions and the contemporary world. Accompanied by her drum and distinctive voice, she honours the memory of her ancestors, the Innu language, and the cultural values that continue to inspire her work. Her remarkable career has made her one of the leading figures in Indigenous arts and culture in Quebec and across Canada.
