Phoque OFF : Wrestling Night NSPW With CHOU at Centre Horizon

Thu 15 Feb 2024 • 08:00 pm Punk Rock
Le Centre Horizon - Québec 24,14$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

The Chou adventure began in 2018, when Bruno Bouchard approached Charles Laplante with the project of repairing his defunct punk band (which he judged not to be at its full potential). What is initially an attempt to inject a dose of Hot Snakes, coupled with an unhealthy prescription for grunge, quickly goes off the rails. The experiment pulls in so many directions that the band has no choice but to deconstruct the term anarcho-punk to create the only genre that can unite all their influences: arachno-punk!

The band takes off with the arrival of the bellicose Gabrielle Oltra on drums and the thunderous Patrick “”Patch”” Chagnon on bass. The band’s first album (an eponymous collection of their pre-pandemic compositions, recorded to the rhythm of curfew and released in the midst of deconfinement) saw the light of day in May 2022. Beyond the repeated decibel onslaughts and colorful lyrics, this first draft features collaborations with Vincent Peake, Antoine Corriveau and François Gagnon from Fuck Toute.

Thanks to the humoristic-cynical character and inventive riffs of the Bouchard/Laplante duo, the cruciferous quartet attracts the attention of organizers of several festivals, including Pouzza Fest and the Taverne Tour. Several intense evenings, including concerts with Oktoplut, Cirrho and the Dales Hawerchuk, then keep this merry band busy before their biggest concert to date: opening for Mononc Serge and Anonymus at MTelus as part of the Francos de Montréal!
