In October 2020, the band released “Figure Us Out!”, a debut EP featuring singer-songwriter Sarah M-Brunnemer and Cuban percussionists Dayron San Juan Muguercia and Carlos Simon. The following years saw the release of two new singles, the first a neo-soul number with French singer Mona B. entitled “Chamallow” (October 2021), and a glam funk track with singer Alex Blanchette, “Retraçant tes pas” (April 2022). Last August, on a new EP entitled “Miracle!”, the band presented 5 tracks with a festive, eclectic ambience. With a new instrumental line-up loaded with brass and strings, they offer an amalgam of hypnotic grooves and electrifying riffs.
Le groupe fait paraître en octobre 2020 «Figure Us Out!», un premier EP auquel participent l’auteure-compositrice-interprète Sarah M-Brunnemer et les percussionnistes cubains Dayron San Juan Muguercia et Carlos Simon. Les années suivantes, il sort deux nouveaux singles, le premier de style neo-soul avec la chanteuse française Mona B. intitulé «Chamallow» (octobre 2021), et un morceau de glam funk avec le chanteur Alex Blanchette, «Retraçant tes pas» (avril 2022). En août dernier, sur un nouvel EP intitulé «Miracle!», le groupe présente 5 morceaux aux ambiances festives et éclectiques. Avec une nouvelle formation instrumentale chargée en cuivres et cordes, ils proposent un amalgame de grooves hypnotiques et riffs électrisants.
Created by the founders of the Lemon Bucket Orchestra, a 13-piece guerrilla-folk and balkan-party-punk band, Balaklava Blues lies somewhere between traditional Ukrainian song and a multimedia techno show. Mark and Marichka Marczyk met and fell in love during the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution (Revolution of Dignity). Their experiences of war coupled with their unique knowledge of the polyphonic blues of the Ukrainian plains explode in an ethno-bass live set in which the duo sing over original tracks influenced by EDM, trap, trance and electro-pop. The songs are accompanied by visuals inspired by the front lines of war, black-and-white archive material from the same region and popular Soviet cartoons.
Créé par les fondateurs du Lemon Bucket Orchestra, un groupe de guérilla-folk et de balkan-party-punk composé de 13 musiciens, Balaklava Blues se situe quelque part entre le chant traditionnel ukrainien et un spectacle techno multimédia. Mark et Marichka Marczyk se sont rencontrés et sont tombés amoureux pendant la Révolution ukrainienne de 2014 (Revolution of Dignity). Leurs expériences de la guerre de pair à leur connaissance unique du blues polyphonique des plaines ukrainiennes explosent dans un set live ethno-basse dans lequel le duo chante sur des morceaux originaux influencés par l’EDM, le trap, la trance et l’électro-pop. Les chants sont accompagnés de visuels inspirés des lignes de front de la guerre, de matériel d’archives en noir et blanc de la même région et de dessins animés soviétiques populaires.
