Paramirabo and Variances Present « Pulse »

This evening marks the obvious meeting of the Paramirabo (Montreal) and Variances (Normandy – France) ensembles around a creation by French composer Thierry Pécou.

The concert celebrates pulsation and circularity as vital elements. The pulse that translates the beating of our hearts and those of the planet as a whole. A pulse that may seem jubilant, but which also seems to be slowing down under the weight of global warming and the collapse of biodiversity.

Paramirabo and Variances perform Steve Reich’s hypnotic Pulse (2015), echoing this idea of pulsation.

They also perform three creations by composers Cassandra Miller (Canadian), Missy Mazzoli (American) and Thierry Pécou (French). The latter take a look at the environmental challenges of the present and the future. This is an opportunity to discover scores that reflect their singular personalities, as well as their shared openness to pop and traditional music, and their attraction to harmony, melodic lines and periodic, repetitive, pulsating phenomena!

Cette soirée marque la rencontre évidente des ensembles Paramirabo (Montréal) et Variances (Normandie – France) autour d’une création du compositeur français Thierry Pécou.

Le concert célèbre la pulsation et la circularité comme élément vital. Ce pouls (pulse) qui traduit les battements de notre cœur et ceux de la planète toute entière. Ce pouls, à priori jubilatoire, mais qui semble aussi ralentir sous le poids du réchauffement climatique et de l’effondrement de la biodiversité.

Paramirabo et Variances interprètent Pulse, œuvre hypnotique de Steve Reich (2015), en écho à cette idée de pulsation. Ils interprètent aussi trois créations des compositeur·trice·s Cassandra Miller (canadienne), Missy Mazzoli (étasunienne) et Thierry Pécou (français). Ces dernier·ière·s tentent de poser leur regard sur les défis environnementaux du présent et de l’avenir. C’est l’occasion de découvrir des partitions reflétant leur personnalité singulière ainsi que leur ouverture commune aux musiques pop ou traditionnelles, leur attraction pour l’harmonie, les lignes mélodiques et pour les phénomènes périodiques, répétitifs, pulsés !
