Le Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur présente l’Orchestre Métropolitain avec Yannick Nézet-Séguin

Saluons comme il se doit la venue au Festival de l’Orchestre Métropolitain après trois ans d’absence, sous la baguette de son illustrissime chef, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Le maestro, récemment récompensé d’un prix Grammy, poursuit sa fabuleuse carrière comme directeur musical du Metropolitan Opera à New York et de l’Orchestre de Philadelphie, sans délaisser pour autant son cher orchestre montréalais auprès duquel il s’est engagé pour la vie. Au programme, la Symphonie No 5 de Beethoven, qui figure parmi les œuvres les plus célèbres du monde, reconnaissable dès ses premières mesures, précédée de l’ouverture de Ville cosmopolite d’Airat Ichimouratov, des 3e et 4e mouvements de la Symphonie No 3 de Louise Farrenc et d’Eko-Bmijwang de Barbara Assiginaak. Un rendez-vous à ne pas manquer!

We’re poised to give a fitting welcome to the Orchestre Métropolitain, returning after a three-year absence, under the baton of illustrious conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The Grammy Award-winning maestro continues his fabulous career as music director of the Met in New York and the Philadelphia Orchestra, without abandoning his beloved Montreal orchestra, to which he has made a lifelong commitment. The program for this night includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, one of the world’s most famous works, instantly recognizable from its opening bars, preceded by Airat Ichimouratov’s Cosmopolitan City Overture, the third and fourth movements of Louise Farrenc’s Symphony No. 3, and Eko-Bmijwang by Barbara Assiginaak. An event not to be missed!

Blxst au Théâtre Corona

Blxst est l’architecte d’une nouvelle ère du hip-hop et de la culture de la côte ouest, non seulement en tant que rappeur, chanteur, auteur-compositeur et producteur, mais aussi en tant que visionnaire créatif qui mixe, maîtrise et monte lui-même ses propres vidéos et œuvres d’art. Dès le lycée, le natif de South Central a appris à produire et à enregistrer, et a collaboré avec YG, Mozzy, Snoop Dogg, Nas, et bien d’autres.

Blxst has architected a new era of West Coast hip-hop and culture by hand as not only a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer but also as a creative visionary who mixes, masters, and self-edits his own videos and artwork. Back in high school, the South Central native taught himself how to produce and record, going on to collaborate with YG, Mozzy, Snoop Dogg, Nas, and more.

L’Orchestre Symphonique présente Sixtrum : 6 marimbas

Fier d’une réputation internationale et toujours à l’avant-garde de l’expérimentation, l’ensemble Sixtrum collaborera avec l’OSM afin de présenter un concert tout marimba. En effet, les six musiciens du groupe offriront un répertoire consacré uniquement à cet instrument aux sonorités chaleureuses, culminant avec l’œuvre 6 Marimbas de Steve Reich. Cette pièce aux allures transcendantales créée il y a 35 ans est typique de l’univers minimaliste du compositeur états-unien.

Boasting an international reputation and ever at the forefront of experimentation, Sixtrum ensemble collaborates with the OSM to present an all-marimba concert. The group’s six musicians will perform repertoire solely devoted to the warm-toned instrument, culminating in Steve Reich’s 6 Marimbas, a transcendentally imbued piece that premiered 35 years ago, characteristic of this American composer’s minimalist creative approach.

Les Mardis Big Band avec Joe Sullivan au Dièse Onze

Depuis son spectacle inaugurale en 1998, le Joe Sullivan Big Band est devenu une force majeure sur la scène de jazz au Canada. Le groupe compte parmi ses accomplissements de nombreux concerts, émissions de radio et quatres excellents disques compactes. Il a aussi reçu de nombreux distinctions, y inclus des bourses des conseils des arts canadiens et québequois et deux nominations pour le prix opus. En plus d’une superbe section rhythmique, l’orchestre compte parmi ses membres plusieurs vedettes du jazz québecois, y inclus Lorne Lofsky, Al Mclean, André Leroux, Aron Doyle, Dave Grott et Jean-Nicholas Trottier. Le répertoire du groupe comprend des pièces de jazz contemporain composés principalement par Sullivan et Jean Fréchette.

Since it’s début performance in 1998, the Joe Sullivan Big Band has become a major presence on the Canadian jazz scene. The group’s growing list of accomplishments includes numerous concert appearances, radio broadcasts and four critically acclaimed CD recordings. The group has received numerous grants from the Canadian and Québec arts councils and was twice nominated for a Prix Opus. The ensemble is anchored by one of Canada’s finest rhythm sections in André White (piano) Alec Walkington (bass) and Dave Laing (drums). It also features an all-star cast of Quebec’s top jazz soloists, including Lorne Lofsky, Al Mclean, André Leroux, Aron Doyle, Dave Grott and Jean-Nicholas Trottier. The band performs from a large and varied repertoire of contemporary jazz compositions, principally by Sullivan and Jean Fréchette.

Manuel Valera and The New Cuban Express au Dièse Onze

Basé à New York, l’artiste, pianiste et compositeur nominé aux Grammy Awards Manuel Valera est né et a grandi à La Havane, Cuba. Depuis son arrivée à New York, il est devenu bien connu sur la scène du jazz moderne de New York, récoltant des critiques nationales et prêtant ses talents de pianiste et de compositeur à des artistes aussi remarquables qu’Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, Dafnis Prieto, Jeff ” Tain” Watts, John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Joel Frahm, Yosvany Terry parmi tant d’autres. Valera est également le leader du groupe Manuel Valera and the New Cuban Express, un projet profondément influencé par les expériences d’artistes cubains des années 70 et 80. Inspiré par Irakere, Emiliano Salvador et AfroCuba, ce groupe en tournée crée un style unique et distinctif qui mélange des éléments de jazz, de R&B, de fusion et de funk avec des styles de musique cubains. Expectativas (MAVO 2013) est la suite et le septième enregistrement en tant que leader de son New Cuban Express nominé aux Grammy Awards 2013 (MAVO 2012) qui était en lice pour le meilleur album de jazz latin de l’année.

Based in New York City, Grammy nominated artist, pianist and composer Manuel Valera was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. Since arriving in NYC, he has become well known in the NYC modern jazz scene, garnering national reviews and lending his talents as a pianist and composer to such notable artist as Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, Dafnis Prieto, Jeff “Tain” Watts, John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Joel Frahm, Yosvany Terry among many others. Valera is also the leader of his working band Manuel Valera and the New Cuban Express, a project deeply influenced by the experiments of Cuban artists from the 70s and 80s. While inspired by artists Irakere, Emiliano Salvador and AfroCuba, this touring band creates a unique and distinctive style that mixes elements of Jazz, R&B, fusion and funk with Cuban music styles. Expectativas (MAVO 2013) is the follow up and seventh recording as a leader to his 2013 Grammy nominated New Cuban Express (MAVO 2012) which was up for Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year.

Kind est accompagné de 6 des meilleurs musiciens de la relève à Montréal afin d’offrir au public une expérience qui lui permettra de voyager dans son univers et d’oublier ses soucis le temps du spectacle. Un public attentif saura trouver dans les textes de Kind de nombreux outils utiles afin de mieux gérer les douleurs physiques et mentales, les situations difficiles, et vivre de façon plus consciente.

Kind is an artist that sings and writes about health, healing, nature, spirituality, human struggles, and the science of classical Yoga in an effort to raise human consciousness and alleviate suffering. He finds his inspiration in a wide range of bands and blends styles to create a new kind of meditative-pop-reggae that will make both youth and elders vibe to the rhythm and reflect on the lyrics. Some artists that have inspired him a lot are Vaughn Benjamin (Midnite, Akae Beka), Bob Marley and The Wailers, Pressure Busspipe, Jah9, Paul McCartney, and Chronixx.

Kind will be accompanied by 6 of the most skillful musicians in Montréal to offer the crowd an experience that will carry them into his world, make them forget about their worries for the time of the show, and give them cues to live a more joyful, conscious life.

Some mutual affinities transcend generations. This certainly is the case for William Christie and the rising stars Lea Desandre and Thomas Dunford, who all share many musical and personal insights. David Celia & Zuffalo à la Casa Del Popolo

David est un auteur-compositeur-interprète innovant et un guitariste étonnant, connu pour ses performances live spontanées. Ses chansons ont un style alt/folk ouvert qui a également été décrit comme “Beatlesque”.

Zuffalo s’est formé à partir d’un amour partagé pour des groupes tels que les Beatles, Grateful Dead et James Brown. Une nuit à Toronto en 2016, Mikey et Kim ont recruté Sean pour jouer de la guitare et créer leur propre mélange de musique avec ces héros en tête ; rencontrant plus tard Eric qui les a rejoints en 2019. Avec un intérêt mutuel pour l’improvisation, stimulé par la formation en jazz de tous les membres du groupe et la formation en musicothérapie de Kim, les joueurs de Zuffalo aiment tisser des notes et des rythmes les uns autour des autres et peindre de nouvelles idées musicales à la volée.

David is an innovative singer/songwriter and astonishing guitar player, known for his spontaneously driven live performances. His songs have an open alt/folk style that’s also been described as “Beatlesque”.

Zuffalo was formed out of a shared love for bands such as the Beatles, Grateful Dead and James Brown. One night in Toronto in 2016, Mikey and Kim recruited Sean to play guitar and create their own blend of music with these heroes in mind; later meeting Eric who joined in 2019. With a mutual interest in improvisation, boosted by the jazz training of all band members and Kim’s music therapy background, the Zuffalo players love to weave notes and beats around each other and paint new musical ideas on the fly.

Soledad : Tribute to Piazzolla

Bandonéoniste virtuose considéré comme le plus grand compositeur de tango du XXe siècle, Astor Piazzolla sera à l’honneur lors de ce concert aux forts effluves argentins. Pour donner vie au répertoire de cette légende musicale, l’OSM a réuni une formation à l’image de celle que privilégiait Piazzolla, soit le piano, le bandonéon, le violon la guitare et la contrebasse. Dans ce concert qui témoignera de l’importance de la musique baroque dans l’œuvre du maître argentin, le public sera enhardi par la présence de deux danseurs, dont les pas sont inextricablement liés aux airs de tango.

A virtuoso bandoneon player regarded as the greatest tango composer of the 20th century, Astor Piazzolla is celebrated in this strongly accented Argentinian concert. To bring the repertoire of this musical legend to life, the OSM will assemble a group of musicians reflecting Piazolla’s favoured ensemble: piano, bandoneon, violin, guitar, and double bass. In this concert highlighting the importance of Baroque music in the works of this Argentinian master, audiences will also be conquered by the panache of two dancers whose steps are inextricably bound to the tango melodies being performed.

Le Festival de Lanaudière présente William Christie et Théotime Langlois de Swarte : une fête baroque

C’est un événement rarissime : trois jours après le concert des Arts Florissants à l’Amphithéâtre, leur fondateur et directeur musical William Christie se joint à leur nouveau violon solo, coqueluche de la scène baroque en Europe, sacré Révélation aux Victoires de la musique classique, pour un récital intime dans l’une de nos plus belles églises. Entre les envoûtantes sonates de Leclair et de son contemporain Senaillé, c’est à une prodigieuse fête baroque que nous convient le maître et son disciple.

Here is a truly rare event: three days following the concert by Les Arts Florissants at the Amphitheatre, their founder and musical director William Christie joins their new concertmaster, cherished by the European Baroque milieu, crowned Révélation at France’s Victoires de la musique classique, for an intimate recital in one of our most beautiful churches. The master and his disciple invite us to experience the spellbinding sonatas of Leclair and his contemporary Senaillé, and to take part in a prodigious Baroque feast.
