White Boy Scream est le projet classique expérimental de la chanteuse d’opéra et compositrice Micaela Tobin. Dans son dernier album, BAKUNAWA, elle dissèque sa voix en utilisant l’électronique pour explorer l’identité et les traumatismes ancestraux. BAKUNAWA est un hommage à la mythologie précoloniale de sa patrie, les Philippines. Il s’agit à la fois d’un rituel sonore et d’un récit diasporique. À propos de l’album, Steve Smith du New Yorker Magazine affirme que « l’opéra ferait bien d’y prêter attention. » L’album a été classé 9e album de l’année 2020 par The Wire Magazine.

White Boy Scream is the experimental classical project from opera singer and composer Micaela Tobin. On her latest release, ‘BAKUNAWA’, she dissects her voice through the use of electronics as a means of exploring identity and ancestral trauma. “BAKUNAWA” is an homage to the pre-colonial mythology of her motherland, the Philippines. Part sonic ritual, part diasporic storytelling. Of the album, Steve Smith of The New Yorker Magazine asserts that “opera would do well to pay attention.” The album was ranked #9 Release of 2020 in The Wire Magazine.
