Basé à New York, l’artiste, pianiste et compositeur nominé aux Grammy Awards Manuel Valera est né et a grandi à La Havane, Cuba. Depuis son arrivée à New York, il est devenu bien connu sur la scène du jazz moderne de New York, récoltant des critiques nationales et prêtant ses talents de pianiste et de compositeur à des artistes aussi remarquables qu’Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, Dafnis Prieto, Jeff ” Tain” Watts, John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Joel Frahm, Yosvany Terry parmi tant d’autres. Valera est également le leader du groupe Manuel Valera and the New Cuban Express, un projet profondément influencé par les expériences d’artistes cubains des années 70 et 80. Inspiré par Irakere, Emiliano Salvador et AfroCuba, ce groupe en tournée crée un style unique et distinctif qui mélange des éléments de jazz, de R&B, de fusion et de funk avec des styles de musique cubains. Expectativas (MAVO 2013) est la suite et le septième enregistrement en tant que leader de son New Cuban Express nominé aux Grammy Awards 2013 (MAVO 2012) qui était en lice pour le meilleur album de jazz latin de l’année.

Based in New York City, Grammy nominated artist, pianist and composer Manuel Valera was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. Since arriving in NYC, he has become well known in the NYC modern jazz scene, garnering national reviews and lending his talents as a pianist and composer to such notable artist as Arturo Sandoval, Paquito D’Rivera, Brian Lynch, Dafnis Prieto, Jeff “Tain” Watts, John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Joel Frahm, Yosvany Terry among many others. Valera is also the leader of his working band Manuel Valera and the New Cuban Express, a project deeply influenced by the experiments of Cuban artists from the 70s and 80s. While inspired by artists Irakere, Emiliano Salvador and AfroCuba, this touring band creates a unique and distinctive style that mixes elements of Jazz, R&B, fusion and funk with Cuban music styles. Expectativas (MAVO 2013) is the follow up and seventh recording as a leader to his 2013 Grammy nominated New Cuban Express (MAVO 2012) which was up for Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year.
