Maïa Davies au Centre Phi

Fri 10 May 2024 • 12:00 am Folk
Centre Phi - Montréal À partir de 25$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Juno-nominated bilingual singer-songwriter Maïa Davies, winner of the #1 SOCAN award, recently embarked on a mission of self-discovery. Born in Montreal, the artist got her start with the folk group Ladies of the Canyon (signed to Warner Music), has released two solo albums in French, and has written over 12 songs for Canadian commercial radio chart-toppers, including Mother Mother and Serena Ryder.

Maïa has assembled new songs, both painful and introspective, in English, for her forthcoming solo album due May 10 via Acronym/Universal; the kind of painfully honest music that can only be generated by a wound so raw that it needs space and time to heal. With piano compositions instantly and intentionally reminiscent of the incandescent baroque pop of Tori Amos and Kate Bush, Davies wistfully weaves pop and classical webs into well-crafted patterns, tempering the acute affliction of the lyrics with wistful melodies and gentle vocals. The result is a musical tale shared with empathy and composed with heart, confessional and piercing in its intimacy and scope.
