Lauréat du très convoité prix du festival international de jazz de Montréal avec son trio, d’un prix Juno du meilleur album contemporain avec le Merlin Factor et du 2e prix au prestigieux Great American Jazz Piano Competition de Jacksonville, James Gelfand s’est produit dans de nombreux festivals de jazz renommés dans le monde et est l’un des pianistes de jazz les plus accomplis du Canada. Il est également un compositeur de films reconnu qui a composé la musique de plus de 100 films et a remporté les prix Jutra, Socan et Gemini pour son travail.

James Gelfand, one of Canada’s best pianists, has played and toured with Kenny Wheeler, Michael Brecker, Sonny Greenwich, Terry Clarke, Michel Donato, Alain Caron and Gino Vanelli. He is the recipient of both a Master’s Degree in Jazz and a B.A. in Classical Music from the Eastman School of Music. Gelfand was a semi-finalist at the 1987 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition, and his group was awarded First Prize at the Festival International de Jazz de Montr˜al in 1992. He has also performed at Festivals in Montreux, Le Mans and Jacksonville, and has performed on over 25 recordings, including three as a leader.
