Yoo Doo Right (21h)
Le trio de rock expérimental Yoo Doo Right (Montréal, CA) marie guitares mélodiques et bruyantes, trames de synthétiseurs trafiqués, lignes de basse étoffées et déchaînements percussifs calculés, rendant des pièces tentaculaires et cathartiques. Puisant inspiration non seulement du post-rock, du krautrock et du shoegaze, de la musique classique et concrète, comme de l’électroacoustique, il crée un son unique dévoilant « des gigantesques monoliths de riffs rugissants qui se brisent contre des essaims de rythmes turbulents » (PopMatters). Depuis sa formation en 2016, le groupe a fait paraître deux longs jeux (Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose et A Murmur, Boundless to the East), trois EPs (Nobody Panicked and Everybody Got On, EP2 et The Sacred Fuck EP), ainsi qu’une poignée d’extraits, ajoutant maintes tournées au Canada, aux États-Unis et en Europe. Ce faisant, ils ont participé à nombre de festivals de renom tels que SXSW, Levitation, Dunk! Fest, Sled Island, Treefort Music Fest et M pour Montréal, en sus de partager la scène avec Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS et Jessica Moss. Prévu pour le 8 novembre 2024 via Mothland, le solennel et contestataire From the Heights of Our Pastureland s’inscrit parfaitement dans le riche catalogue musical de Yoo Doo Right; un poème sonore sincère et patient traitant de l’expansion effrénée et destructive faite au nom du « progrès », de l’effondrement imminent et de ce qu’implique la reconstruction.
Experimental rock trio Yoo Doo Right (Montréal, CA) wed noisy, melodic guitar parts, effects-laden synthesizer soundscapes, deep bass grooves and patented percussive furies into sprawling, cathartic musical pieces. Drawing inspiration from post-rock, krautrock, shoegaze, classical music, electroacoustics, and musique concrète, they create a unique sound where “towering monoliths of roaring riffs crash against swarms of restless rhythms” (Pop Matters). Since 2016, they have released two full-lengths (Don’t Think You Can Escape Your Purpose, A Murmur, Boundless to the East), three EPs (Nobody Panicked and Everybody Got On, EP2, The Sacred Fuck EP), and a few singles, including a 7” split with Acid Mothers Temple, whilst touring extensively in Canada, the United and Europe. Along the way, they have performed at notorious events such as SXSW, Levitation, Dunk! Fest, Sled Island, Treefort Music Fest, and M for Montreal, also opening for the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo, FACS, and Jessica. Scheduled for November 8th, 2024 via Mothland, From the Heights of Our Pastureland is yet another solemn if defiant entry in Yoo Doo Right’s rich music catalogue, an honest and patient sonic poem about the destructive process of unbridled expansion in the name of “progress”, the inevitable collapse and what it means to rebuild.
Solids (22h)
Décembre 2019. Le groupe « rock » (disons, pour faire simple) Solids fait trois spectacles pour souligner ses dix ans d’existence, mais aussi – et surtout – le début d’un de ces fameux hiatus indéfinis (on va tous·tes pogner un deux minutes quand le monde au plus large sens du terme va s’en caller un à son tour à peine quelques mois plus tard en mars 2020, t’sais veux dire). Cinq ans plus tard, une certaine envie de définir le dit hiatus fait son chemin. Des jams se donnent, puis force est d’admettre que ça marche encore cette affaire là. La formation (Xavier Germain Poitras à la guitare & voix et Louis Guillemette à la batterie & voix), qui s’était fortifiée du guitar hero Guillaume Chiasson (Bon Enfant, Jesuslesfilles, Ponctuation…) en spectacle de 2016 à 2019, en profite pour revenir à la formule duo de ses premiers balbutiements et jamme avec de nouvelles bébelles. Le jam est toujours central.
December 2019. The “rock” band (let’s just say, to put it simply) Solids is doing three shows to celebrate its tenth anniversary, but also – and above all – the beginning of one of those famous indefinite hiatuses (we’re all going to get a two-minute hiatus when the world in the widest sense of the term gets one in turn just a few months later in March 2020, you know, I mean). Five years later, a certain desire to define said hiatus is making its way. Jams are held, and then we have to admit that this thing is still going strong. The band (Xavier Germain Poitras on guitar & vocals and Louis Guillemette on drums & vocals), which was strengthened by the guitar hero Guillaume Chiasson (Bon Enfant, Jesuslesfilles, Ponctuation…) in live performances from 2016 to 2019, is taking the opportunity to return to the duo formula of its early days and jam with new gadgets. The jam is still central.
