FIMAV: Sakina Abdou solo

Fri 17 May 2024 • 01:00 pm Free Improvisation
Église Saint-Christophe d'Arthabaska - Montréal 26$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

FIMAV is proud to welcome SAKINA ABDOU, a rising star of European improvised music. This saxophonist and flautist from Lille has made a name for herself through collaborations with Eve Risser (Red Desert Orchestra), Raymond Boni and members of the Muzzix collective, based in her home town. Her first solo album, Goodbye Ground, released by Relative Pitch in 2022, has the force of a manifesto. And while she sticks to alto and tenor sax on this one, she’s far from confining herself to a single vocabulary. We move from post-ornettist melodic fluidity to post-Coltranian timbral density, without ever resorting to pastiche or simplistic derivation. Timeless, evocative and emotionally charged, ABDOU’s sound evokes a kind of blues that links past and present with verve and imagination.
