C’est à la découverte de ce patrimoine sonore vivant que nous convie le musicien montréalais d’origine malienne Adama Daou. Artiste passionné et pédagogue engagé, il partage avec nous son univers fait de rythmes et de mélodies, né de son enfance au cœur des cérémonies traditionnelles. À travers cette rencontre unique, Adama révèle les secrets du balafon, mêlant récit historique, démonstrations musicales et dialogues avec d’autres percussions africaines.
Each note of the balafon carries within it the echo of ancestral memory, inscribed in the fabric of ceremonies and traditional dances. As one of the most emblematic instruments of Malian percussion, its resonant and woody timbre awakens both body and spirit, forging a sonic continuum that extends from village rituals to the stages of contemporary global performance.
Montreal-based Malian musician Adama Daou invites us to explore this living heritage. Both a passionate artist and a committed pedagogue, Daou situates his musical practice within the cultural landscapes of his childhood, where the balafon was inseparable from the rhythm of communal life. This encounter offers not only an immersion in the history and symbolism of the instrument, but also a performative dialogue in which musical demonstrations intersect with other African percussive traditions.
