Fri 24 Apr 2026 • 07:30 pm Avant-Garde / Modern Jazz / quatuor à cordes
Salle Serge-Garant - Montréal Gratuit
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

As part of the 75th anniversary of the Faculty of Music, two ensembles with contrasting sonic worlds will join forces for an exceptional evening where contemporary jazz meets string chamber music. Hailing from New York’s avant-garde jazz scene, the Michael Bates’ Acrobat quintet teams up with Montreal’s Quatuor Cobalt, a string quartet well known in the contemporary music scene and composed of four graduates from the Faculty’s performance program. Together, they will explore uncharted musical territory through Michael Bates’ arrangements of contemporary repertoire and the premiere of Breath of Nature, specially composed for the occasion by François-Hugues Leclair, Associate Professor at the Faculty. A cross-border dialogue where improvisation, textures, rhythms, and expressive lines intersect in a shared gesture of sonic freedom.
