Olivier Faubert

Built on foundations of early-2000s emo and post-hardcore influences, Olivier Faubert’s debut Pour ne pas mourir en hiver is made of both shadow and light, like November. Between fragments of anecdotes and unleashed prose, his songs dry the tears of aching hearts and set fire to the spines of those who carry them bent. With eclectic arrangements, they at times evoke southern contemporaries like Alvvays or The War On Drugs, and often the still-living immortals from much closer to home, Daniel Bélanger, Karkwa.

Born in Paris in the mid-1990s and now based in Montreal, thaïs is a songwriter, composer, performer—and above all, a producer and director (a profile still all too rare in Quebec). She shapes every aspect of her work. Introverted by nature, music is her liberator, her source of autonomy: she puts forward an electro-pop that is hushed yet pulsating, delicate yet rhythmic, carried by her agile voice. On Personne, her latest release featuring collaborations, her pop becomes even more dynamic and expansive—like the evocation of a nightclub where introspective people might gather in the same bubble, encouraged to melt into the crowd.
