Pour son deuxième concert de la série Cartes blanches, Pro Musica présente le pianiste Serhiy Salov en récital avec le Quatuor à cordes Pro Musica. Instrumentiste de renommée internationale, la carrière de Serhiy Salov l’a conduit en Belgique, en Allemagne, en France, en Italie, au Japon, au Canada, au Royaume-Uni, en Chine et en Ukraine. Il a donné des concerts avec les Berliner Symphoniker, le Hallé Orchestra, l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, l’Orchestre national de Radio France, l’Orchestre philharmonique royal de Liverpool, l’Orchestre philharmonique royal, et l’Orchestre symphonique de Tokyo. Créé à l’initiative de Pro Musica, le quatuor est formé de Marie Bégin et Abby Walsh au violon, Cynthia Blanchon à l’alto ainsi que de Noémie Raymond-Friset au violoncelle.

For its second concert in the Cartes blanches series, Pro Musica presents pianist Serhiy Salov in recital with the Pro Musica String Quartet. An internationally renowned instrumentalist, Serhiy Salov’s career has taken him to Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, China and Ukraine. He has performed with the Berliner Symphoniker, the Hallé Orchestra, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre national de Radio France, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Created at the initiative of Pro Musica, the quartet is composed of Marie Bégin and Abby Walsh on violin, Cynthia Blanchon on viola and Noémie Raymond-Friset on cello.

Programme

Né à Donezk, en Ukraine, Serhiy Salov a suivi, parallèlement à ses études de piano, une formation approfondie en composition et en musicologie qui influence souvent ses interprétations. Il est d’ailleurs reconnu pour ses transcriptions pour piano d’œuvres symphoniques, telles Casse-noisette de Tchaïkovski, Nocturnes de Debussy, Une nuit sur le mont Chauve de Moussorgski et plusieurs autres. Serhiy Salov débute ses études en musique en Ukraine et poursuit à Londres, où il obtient une maîtrise à la Guildhall School of Music and Drama, En 2007, afin de suivre des études supplémentaires auprès de Jean Saulnier, le jeune Ukrainien partit vivre au Canada où il avait déjà remporté en 2004 le Concours musical international de Montréal où il obtient un doctorat de l’Université de Montréal. Il reçut en outre le premier prix aux concours internationaux de piano de Dudley (2000) et d’Épinal (2004), le deuxième prix au concours Gina Bachauer (2010) et au concours mondial de piano de Cincinnati (2012) ainsi que le troisième prix aux concours Long-Thibaud (2001), Hamamatsu (2003) et Top of the World de Tromsø (2009). En mai 2014, Serhiy Salov a remporté le prix d’improvisation Richard Lupien, créé par le Concours musical international de Montréal. En plus de participer régulièrement aux festivals les plus prestigieux, il a reçu plusieurs prix dans divers concours internationaux.

Born in Donezk, Ukraine, Serhiy Salov’s extensive training in composition and musicology, in addition to his piano studies, often influences his performances. He is known for his transcriptions for piano of symphonic works such as Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, Debussy’s Nocturnes, Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bald Mountain and many others. Serhiy Salov began his musical studies in Ukraine and continued in London, where he obtained a Master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2007, in order to pursue further studies with Jean Saulnier, the young Ukrainian moved to Canada where he had already won the Montreal International Music Competition in 2004 and where he obtained a doctorate from the University of Montreal. He also won first prize at the Dudley (2000) and Épinal (2004) International Piano Competitions, second prize at the Gina Bachauer Competition (2010) and at the Cincinnati World Piano Competition (2012), and third prize at the Long-Thibaud (2001), Hamamatsu (2003), and Top of the World competitions in Tromsø (2009) In May 2014, Serhiy Salov won the Richard Lupien Improvisation Prize, created by the Montreal International Music Competition.
