Suoni Per Il Popolo : Ky + Genital Shame + HRT

Thu 01 Jun 2023 • 09:00 pm Experimental Rock
La Sotterenea - Montréal 28,30$
· by Rédaction PAN M 360

Ky is the new project of Ky Brooks, the vocalist from Lungbutter. Accompanied by an ensemble of local friends, Ky presents “Power Is The Pharmacy,” an album of cerebral and visceral outsider artpunk. With incisive socio-political observation and spiritual sadness, these emotionally charged songs will carry you through disenchantment and re-enchantment. Genital Shame, experimental black metal from Pittsburgh, PA, is the one-person project of Erin Dawson. Though Dawson is the only member of Genital Shame, she has recruited Stander (Chicago) as her backing band. On bass, drums, and guitar Stephen Waller, Derek Applebee, and Mike Boyd help Dawson veer from heavily distorted tremolo-picked guitar and distant propulsive drums to a gentle, bedroom pop ambience. Genital Shame, ultimately, is a queering of the sonic traditions and musical form of black metal, Genital Shame’s music is a queering of expectations. Prepare to have your preconceived notions of black metal eviscerated. Opening the night is HRT, the Montreal-based Live Transgendered EBM act. Their sublime, towering voice, presence and intensity are an energetic match to Diamanda Galas and Lingua Ignota. Their pulsing electronic beats and politically-charged lyrics create a powerful soundscape that celebrates transgender identity with bombastic confrontation.
