A reference to the English TV show of the same name, Wheeltappers and Shunters is a satire of British culture, as seen by that band in the surgical masks. On their first album in seven years, Clinic remain quite faithful to the sound it has always advocated: metronomic drums, cold, sharp guitars, vocals alternately dreamy and eerie, multiple effects and layers, excessive use of reverb… However, the Liverpool combo leans a little towards vintage electronics and a psychedelic dancefloor on Wheeltappers’ 12 tracks, with a sinister cabaret side that perfectly enhances the album’s brief 30 minutes.
